Maltese Road Primary & Junior School, Essex

The Project:
Oakenwoods in partnership with Skanska carried out the refurbishment and remodelling of a former special needs school into a new modern primary school under the Essex Schools Framework agreement. Phase 1 Works included the demolition of the temporary classrooms and removal of all asbestos within the existing building. The construction of a new classroom which was required to bring the existing school up to current standards including the building of a single storey timber frame building located to the rear and forming a new internal courtyard to the existing school.
Phase 2 Works included the process of modernising the existing school, recladding the exterior of the building with new timber larch cladding, fitting new double-glazed windows and doors, replacing the roof covering, installing new mechanical, electrical and public health services throughout and the total refurbishment of the interior to provide a state of the art facility which included I.T suites, reception/standard classrooms, a sports hall, offices and administration areas.
Externally the works included the remodelling and refurbishment of the new hard and soft landscaped areas together with new external covered play areas bringing the scheme together in providing a modern facility within the local environment. Oakenwoods successfully completed the project from start to finish within 24 weeks and handed over the project to a high standard, within budget and on time.
Our Role:
Responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and installation of the mechanical, electrical and public health services, partitions, dry-linings, ceilings, carpentry, joinery, floor finishes, decorations, fixtures, furnishings and equipment.
